Getting Started

Here is basic information to help you get started in creating a state specific ACCESS plan, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

What is a state-specific ACCESS Plan?

This year NACHC has put forward an ambitious plan with the vision of health centers serving 30 million people in 2015. The success of the ACCESS for All America plan will depend on the efforts of the entire health center family. A state-specific ACCESS plan identifies the expansion goals for your specific state as part of the nation-wide growth target. It is prepared within the context of each state’s unique environmental conditions and needs.

Why is it important that my PCA develop a state-specific ACCESS Plan?

The development of a state-specific ACCESS plan will enable your PCA to establish goals, assess resource needs and identify legislation and advocacy efforts required to achieve state-specific expansion between 2008-2015. It will enable your state to establish clear and concise objectives to expand access to a medical home by the medically disenfranchised.

How should my PCA go about developing a state-specific ACCESS Plan?

Many of you already have pieces of a plan- the task for you will be to put the pieces together. Each PCA will decide the strategy, process, and components for their ACCESS plan given their unique environment. NACHC has developed a “State Access Planning Discussion Document” that outlines some suggested areas to consider.  You might also want to take advantage of NACHC's data and research clearinghouse, including the ACCESS report series.

What is NACHC’s role in the state-specific ACCESS plan process?

NACHC is available as a resource and support as you embark on your state-specific plan. NACHC is offering technical assistance tailored to your specific state’s needs as well as occasional conference calls for peer-to-peer sharing.

Who should I contact if I have questions or need technical assistance?

Please contact Linda Norris at (301) 347-0400 or at lnorris@nachc.com.
