These are interesting times for Community Health Centers. Both opportunities and challenges present themselves in health care reform, expansion of health centers and a shrinking primary care workforce. The current Quality Agenda for health centers is one of growth and integration. The patient centered medical home (PCMH), community partnerships, and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) have emerged as important strategies in how the nation's health centers deliver and maintain excellent primary care for underserved populations. Electronic Health Records and "going paperless" strengthen the ability of health centers to increase capacity and improve performance consistent with the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) quality standards of timeliness, efficiency, equality, safety, effectiveness and patient-centeredness.
