Vice President of Marketing and Planning for Primary Health Network (PHN) in Sharon, PACongratulations to NACHC’s April National Community Health Advocate of the Month, Susan Piccirilli, Vice President of Marketing and Planning for Primary Health Network (PHN) in Sharon, PA. Always hard at work, since January Susan has visited almost every PHN site asking staff to sign up on the advocacy list. This effort has more than doubled the number of advocates from PHN, now numbering over 100 advocates. But Susan’s work in advocacy stretches far beyond signing up advocates - Last year during National Health Center Week, PHN hosted a visit from Congressman Phil English. Susan, playing on the name, worked to create an “English” Garden to honor Congressman English and his continued support of health centers. What Susan did not realize was that Congressman English was Irish. Susan, always resourceful, knew how to correct the oversight. She bought a Leprechaun and took its picture in the English Garden and presented the picture and Leprechaun to Congressman English during their Hill visit at this year’s P&I. Congressman English was touched. Constantly on the job for advocacy, Susan has been working the phones and e-mail trying to get legislators from PA and OH to sign onto this years Appropriations letters. In a move that makes our own National Advocacy Director, Marc Wetherhorn, proud, Susan doesn’t easily take ‘no’ for an answer! Susan has been quick with a ‘Thank-You’ to her supportive policymakers, and persistent for answers from those who waiver. Susan’s dedication to advocacy and the health center movement is not just helping the folks in western Pennsylvania and Ohio, but health centers across the country. From National Health Center Week 2006 to the Policy and Issues Forum 2007, and for her future efforts to come, Susan’s dedication and leadership in advocacy is a true inspiration. Join NACHC in congratulating Susan Piccirilli, our April National Community Health Advocate of the Month.
